What kind of website do I need?

There are basically two types of website -

A "Static" website or a "Dynamic" website.

A "Static" website is a site where the pages never change their appearance and visitors choose to visit the pages or areas within the site to view information that they require (www.jsr-webdesign.co.uk is a "Static" website).

A "Static" website is ideal for those companies who wish their website to serve as an online advertisement for their company showcasing their product or service including contact details for potential customers who may inquire further information.

A "Dynamic" website is a site that includes an interactive feature that allows certain web-pages within the site to change appearance according to the visitors requests/needs. Features that allow this kind of function are - searchable internal databases (Ebay is a good example of this kind of site), chatroom facilities or E-commerce (shop) facilities.

A "Dynamic" website is only required for those companies who wish to sell goods online via an E-commerce shop or those who have a large database of products or services that a potential customer may want to examine.

"Dynamic" websites are much more expensive than "Static" websites to build and require regular maintenance.
